Visakhapatnam: Local body elections in Vishakhapatnam play a crucial role, said Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy on Sunday.

Speaking at a conference held in Visakhapatnam, the MP said an in-charge was being appointed for each Parliamentary seat.

The MP said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed the leaders to give tickets to those who have been working hard for the party from the beginning. Hence, the MP said, those who worked for the party will be recognised and accorded priority. However, selection of candidates will be handled in a transparent manner, he assured.

Further the MP said MLAs will be given freedom to choose the candidates so that the responsibility of winning also rests on their shoulders. The Chief Minister decided to give an additional 10 per cent seats for the BCs," the MP highlighted.

He exhorted the party cadre to strive hard to ensure party's success in the GVMC elections.

He advised the party activists to create awareness among the people on the welfare schemes being implemented by the government. He stressed the need to strive to ensure that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy continues as Chief Minister for next25 years.

About the formation of new districts, the MP said each Parliamentary constituency will be converted into a district in future.

Speaking on the occasion, Visakhapatnam in-charge Minister K Kanna Babu said along with Visakhapatnam Mayor seat, YSRC should win in all the 98 divisions in the local body elections. Pointing out at the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the Minister said, pushed the State into financial crisis with loans amounting Rs 2.5 lakh crore and Rs 66,000 crore pending bills to be cleared.

Tourism Minister M Srinivasa Rao said that the brand image of Visakhapatnam will be placed at international standards after making it into an executive capital.
