Vizianagaram: Visakhapatnam city police arrested a gang on Tuesday while trying to exchange Turkey currency for Indian currency.

Sharing the details with the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Aishwarya Rastogi said six persons including a woman involved in the offence were taken into custody.

The accused were identified as B Rama Swamy, N Narayana Rao, D Satya Venkata Prasad, D Yashoda, I Prudvi Raj and M Prasad. The DCP said the gang held a meeting at Dr V S Krishna College main gate on Tuesday.

The police seized 300 Turkey currency notes with Rs 5 lakh denomination. Based on reliable information, the MVP police conducted a raid and busted the gang.

One of the accused, Rama Swamy mentioned that a person named Ravi, a resident of Vepagunta area, gave Turkey currency notes for exchange into Indian currency. During the investigation, police came to know that the foreign currency was demonetised. But the accused made an attempt intentionally to cheat the public.
