Visakhapatnam: Summer schedule to pep up travellers' mood

Visakhapatnam: This March-end, AirAsia is going to stop its flight service from Kolkata to Visakhapatnam and back as it is losing money on it.

Withdrawing from the route, the airline will commence its operation from Pune to Kolkata, covering almost similar distance as Visakhapatnam to Kolkata. Financial feasibility appears to be the prime factor behind the withdrawal of the morning flight from March 29.

While IndiGo stopped its flight service Chennai-Vizag-Hyderabad-Vizag-Chennai sector, SpiceJet halted its service temporarily from Visakhapatnam-New Delhi, citing maintenance reasons.

However, relief comes in the form of added flight services as some of the airlines, including IndiGo, SpiceJet and AirAsia, are set to launch new services to different destinations. "AirAsia's Kolkata-Visakhapatnam-Kolkata was the most convenient flight for those who used to arrive from foreign destinations because of the timings. However, the summer schedule is sure to bring some solace for the travellers as the same airline is going to commence its operation from Bengaluru-Vizag-Bengaluru from March 29.

Besides, it will also introduce Chennai-Vizag-Chennai flight from April in all likelihood," says K. Vijay Mohan, president of Tours and Travels Association of Andhra Pradesh.

As a part of the summer schedule, IndiGo is also going to launch Chennai-Vizag-Chennai flight service from March 29.

New services expected

This apart, IndiGo has proposals to operate in the Vijayawada-Vizag-Vijayawada and Mumbai-Vizag-Mumbai sectors. AirAsia also has plans to operate in Hyderabad-Vizag-Hyderabad sector shortly. However, sources said that they will be launched once the navy allots slots for the new services.

Though some of the flight services have beetravelers'n withdrawn from the Visakhapatnam airport, travellers feel delighted that introduction of new services, would help them pep-up their itinerary, this summer in particular.
