Vizianagaram: Journalists have joined hands in plying vehicles for migrant workers, who are coming from distant places to reach Odisha, Chattisgarh and dropped them at inter-state border. The scribes have run two buses and provided food, water bottles and even gave some penny amount for their enroute expenditure.

Around 100 migrant labour were reached to Odisha border by the buses. For this event, the scribes raised fund from their own pockets and organised the programme.

Vizianagaram is gateway to enter Odisha and Chattisgarh, Bihar and some other states and it has border with Odisha. Daily hundreds of workers are returning to their native areas through Vizianagaram by walk carrying their belongings o head.

The scribes, reported their agony in channels and newspapers, decided to help them by providing food and to reduce their journey, they provided transportation facility up to the interstate border.

On Sunday morning, they arranged two buses and provided food packets, bread, water bottles, fruits, glucose besides giving some money for their expenditure. Later they picked up the workers here and dropped at Kuneru, which is 130 kilometers from here.

Collector M Harijawaharlal, participating in the programme, appreciated the joint efforts made by the print and electronic media journalists and distributed masks and sanitisers on behalf of government.

On Monday also, the journalists will ply two vehicles to support the walking workers.
