Visakhapatnam: Waltair Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur informed that the division has loaded all-time record of 61.93 million tonnes which is 9.53 per cent over the last year (56.54 million tonnes) that fetched Rs 7,303.52 crore which is 12.10 per cent more than last year performance of Rs 515.25 crores.

Addressing a media conference, the DRM said that the Division has transported 36.38 million passengers which is 3.76 per cent higher than the last year achievement of 35.06 millions and earned Rs 555.06 crore which is 6.98 per cent than last year's earnings of Rs 518.86 crore. The division achieved total revenue of Rs 7,957.39 crore which is 11.28 per cent higher than the last year's revenue of Rs 7,150.68 crore, the DRM added.

The Division has run 281 originating special trains during the last financial year and 307 special trains were run passing through the division. The first overnight express to Kirandul has been regularised in the just ended fiscal with augmentation of a 2nd AC coach.

Two additional escalators were commissioned at Visakhapatnam Railway station on platform numbers 1 and 8. Renovated 6 metre wide FOB commissioned at Visakhapatnam. Additional FOBs at Simhachalam, Duvvada, Rayagada were commissioned in the 2018-19 fiscal, the DRM revealed the achievements of the division.

A world-class air-conditioned relaxing lounge was set up at platform 8 of Visakhapatnam railway station. A refreshing lounge, a first of its kind in Indian Railways, with toilets, shower and relaxing facilities constructed on platform 8 of Visakhapatnam railway station with CSR funds from HPCL commissioned, Mathur added.
