The deep depression in southwestern Bay of Bengal has reportedly intensified into a cyclone, which is named as 'Burevi'. On Wednesday evening it was centered at 70 km northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and 290 km east-southeast of Pamban‌ (Tamil Nadu). The IMD said it would cross the coast between Pamban‌ and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on Thursday midnight or early Friday morning and travels westwards and enters the sea once again as a storm.

The meteorological department said that the effect on southern Tamil Nadu would be severe. There are signs of light to moderate rains in one or two places along the coast and in Rayalaseema for the next two days. According to the IMD, heavy showers are likely in Nellore, Prakasam and Rayalaseema on October 3 and 4. Heavy to moderate showers are expected in Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor districts.

The meteorological department has also forecasted low pressure in the southern Andaman Sea on Friday due to the effect of surface periodicity on the Malaya Peninsula.
