A youth belonging to Ampolu village in Gara mandal has been campaigning against plastic and creating awareness among public on use of alternative bags and covers.

Srikakulam: A youth belonging to Ampolu village in Gara mandal has been campaigning against plastic and creating awareness among public on use of alternative bags and covers. Komman Santosh established 'Yuvajana Sangham' (youth association) at his native village in Ampolu and started campaign against use of plastic bags and covers.

He did his graduation in science and learned about harmful results of using plastic which can causes dreaded diseases like cancer and other diseases. He

started his campaign against use of plastic by explaining its negative impacts on human beings and environment at his native village.

He further launched distribution of jute, paper and cloth bags and covers which are best alternatives and eco-friendly products. Before launching his awareness campaign, he explained to the people on the use of plastic covers and bags in different cities across the nation and the quantity.

He also explained that plastic products will not merge in the soil. Plastic products are polluting soil, water which is posing severe threat to survival of human beings and other living things on earth.

Bags and covers made of cloth, paper and jute are the best alternatives and after use these products will automatically merge in the soil and do not pose threat to environment and will not cause any negative impacts.

Santosh prepared a CD file on the negative impacts of plastic products and also highlighting the need to use alternative products to protect environment. Santosh selected market areas, chicken, mutton shops and curry points where use of plastic is rampant and explained to them not to use the plastic covers for safety of our future generations.

He also distributed covers and bags made of paper, cloth and jute to the customers who gathered at different shops. Santosh organised awareness rallies with school students in different villages. "My aim is to minimise use of plastic day by day by creating awareness among public," said K.Santosh.
