Aspirants run from pillar to post to fulfil formalities

Tirupati: The way NEET PG counselling is being held by Dr YSR University of Health Sciences (YSRUHS) has made several students run from pillar to post to meet a very short deadline given to fulfil the admission formalities.

Even some of them could not meet the requirements as there was no time and were forced to lose their seats and one academic year. After the NEET PG admissions were commenced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) in August 2023, YSRUHS has also followed suit and released notification for web options for the first phase of admissions on August 19. With various issues, the admission process took almost one month.

After that around September 20, the university issued the notification for the 2nd phase web options which was also delayed due to court cases. The university on its part could not even understand the court directions and made certain mistakes due to which the process was delayed further.

At this point, the NMC has given the final deadline of October 25 to complete the admission process by all states. With this, YSRUHS has started to rush the process without having any considerations of the problems of the students. While during the first phase, they used to give 3 – 4 days’ time for students to report at the allotted colleges, from the 2nd phase they started to give less than 24 hours and the bank holidays were not considered.

This has resulted in chaos among the selected students as they need to pay a hefty fee and complete other formalities to secure their admission within the given time. They started releasing the allotment list in the late evenings asking the student to report at the allotted college by 4 pm without considering even the journey time and getting various notarised bonds, fee and original certificates.

However, colleges have given time to submit bonds subsequently but insisted on paying the fee. A student commented that he got a seat under the NRI category and had to pay Rs 57,50,000. Even B category students have to pay Rs 10-lakh plus. Such a huge amount could not be transferred online but can only be sent through banks.

Making things worse, the university has released the MQ mop-up round allotments in the wee hours of Monday and asked them to report by 5 pm on the same day. A student who was at Hyderabad found it very difficult to reach Kuppam while another student who has been to some other city while her certificates are at hometown, could not go there and bring them. Colleges did not agree to admit them without original certificates. It was learnt that a few students were crying before the colleges as they became helpless and had to forgo their seats.

The parents were seen commenting that the university should have given at least two working days’ time to fulfil the admission criteria.

“This is nothing but negligence and in human attitude on the part of university authorities who made a big mess of the whole counselling process. For their faults and delay, they made us suffer like this,” a parent maintained.
