Ongole: The State government has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh to bring home 400 migrant workers from Prakasam district, stranded in Maharashtra since the beginning of lockdown.

The efforts of the TTD chairman and former Ongole MP YV Subbareddy helped in bringing the workers home. The government issued orders to the District Collector to immediately make arrangements for the workers to reach their native places.

About 400 people from Chimakurthy, Kondapi, Podili, Darsi, Marripudi and Santhanuthalapadu mandals in Prakasam district migrated to Taloja area, near Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra as construction workers a few months ago.

Due to the lockdown, they were suffering without food and shelter while the coronavirus is fast spreading in the neighborhood. They have successfully brought their plight to the notice of Subba Reddy through social media and pleaded him to help them reach their loved ones at home. The TTD chief brought the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy moved by the plight of the migrant workers sanctioned Rs 10 lakh from the CMRF to bring them back to their native district.
