Bengaluru: Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa on Monday inaugurated 'Arogya Soudha', the newly constructed administrative complex of Helath and Family Welfare Department at Magadi Road here.

Addressing the event, Health Minister Dr K. Sudhakar said that the CM was revitalizing the health sector despite financial crunch due to the Covid pandemic.

"In the last one and half year CM has approved four new medical colleges out of which three are already functioning. Tomorrow Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences will be inaugurated," he announced.

"The state government is working towards reforming public healthcare system in the state despite the financial crunch due to pandemic. Our aim is to build medical college in every district.

There are 18 govt medical colleges in the state and 9 districts have no govt medical college. Govt is planning to construct medical colleges in these 9 districts also under PPP or other suitable model. There will also be district hospitals and super speciality hospitals attached to these colleges," the minister added.

Sudhakar said that that the government has shown its commitment during Covid-19 pandemic.

"Before pandemic there were only about 5,000 to 6,000 oxygenated beds. In last few months we have increased it to about 30,000 beds. Special allowance is being given to corona warriors, doctors and frontline staff at a cost of Rs.125 crores," he stated.

Applauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said that about1.5% of GDP is being spent on healthcare in our country.

"PM has assured that healthcare spending will be increased to 2.5% of GDP. Ayushman Bharat is being implemented in Karnataka and health cover is available to all including APL," Dr.Sudhakar added.

Dr.K.Sudhakar is putting honest efforts to contain Covid-19 pandemic and reform healthcare in the State.

Arogya Soudha will facilitate better integration within Health Department by bringing 53 offices under one roof including NHM, SAST."
