Bengaluru: Looming Covid threat and fears over new strain have not dulled whacky ideas of ingenious minds. Bengaluru's iconic 46 annual Cake Show has bidden a good-bye to the difficult year 2020, by showcasing an orange model of the virus wearing a mask. There is a hidden message for all: wear a mask and keep coronavirus at bay.
The designer of the cake, Samir J Ramchandran said, "Despite the pandemic continues to pose threat, people have adopted an indifferent approach. They are not following the standard operating procedures and guidelines issued by the government. This is the reason we thought of giving a mask to the model of the virus itself to send out a strong social message."
The pandemic has resulted in the footfall at the show falling to 10,000 compared to 18,000 last year.
Entry is allowed to only 25-30 people at a time.
Ramachandran remarked that though adults stepped out of their houses amidst the pandemic, children didn't get such a chance.
Keeping this in mind, he said, "The theme this year is around children's favourite characters including Simba from the Lion King, Tom and Jerry, Nataraja, and Lord Ganesha. A total of 22 cakes have been designed this year."
Ramachandran said that 3,000 kg of sugar has been used to bake the cakes.
The 16-foot Leaning Tower of Pisa has been the favourite of many. Ramchandran stated that his favourite model centred around the Italy's marvel took seven days to assemble different parts of the cake to get the appropriate structure.
