Hyderabad: Hyderabad Security Cluster, a common platform consisting of cyber security companies, research institutes and the government, will be coming with a Centre of Excellence at the Engineering Staff College of India in Hitech City by 2020.

With a primary focus on research and development, innovation and data breach investigation, the centrewill train experts in regard to cyber security and if needed these experts will be deployed across different states in the country, said Zaki Qureshi, CEO, Hyderabad Security Cluster.

He further said that Hyderabad will soon become the hub for breach investigation reports. The state governments of Karnataka, Gujarat and Haryana, who have shown interest to set up satellite cluster have sought the support of HSC. Moreover, representatives of the cyber security industry from Africa and Middle East are in the process of discussion to collaborate with HSC and Hague Security Delta, for the same, he added.

Meanwhile, Verizon, a managed security solutions company,on Wednesday unveiled its 12th edition of Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), which showed that financially motivated cyber-attacks are on the rise across industry verticals. The report received data points from 73 contributors across 86 countries, including Telangana government.

The report revealed that senior executives in companies are 12 times more likely to become the target of social incidents and nine times more likely to be the target of social breaches than the previous years. Another major finding has been that sectors where financial activity has been prime and personal sensitive data is available on platforms have remained the major vulnerable areas.The report further stated that ransomware attacks accounted for 24 per cent of the malware incidents and is the number-two ranked malware.
