For a new star, who had been launched four years ago, Abhishek Bachchan was yet to make his mark till 2004. From the year 2000, when his debut 'Refugee' was released, he had 13 releases in this phase, most of them sinking without a trace. Ironically, it was the same time his father, the big B was making endless splashes with his select film releases and the hugely popular 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' on the small screen, a second innings success at that.

2004 was also notable for him as he had seven releases in that year, beginning with the southern remake ' Run' released on May 14 and akin a major star (which he was not), having yet another multi-lingual, multi-starrer release 'Yuva' hit the screens a week later on May 21. Both were helmed with a Chennai feel, the first one being a reprisal of a Madhavan-Meera Jasmine hit and the next of the legendary Mani Ratnam. Quite interestingly, this kind of a count was never achieved by his films over the next three years.

Madhavan had successfully broken away from the chocolate hero mould with his Tamil original, which was a ferocious social actioner, having Atul Kulkarni as the bad man. Lingusamy, the director experienced the pleasure of putting together a major hit film which was praised both by the critics and the audiences.

Boney Kapoor, who had by then secured a few blockbusters from the southern film industry for a comfortable remake exercise in Mumbai, bankrolled this Hindi venture. Abhishek Bachchan who had Bhumika Chawla as his heroine, played the role of a carefree youngster who is keen to marry a girl whose brother is a fierce hoodlum, played by Mahesh Manjrekar. The scrap that he gets into forms the highlight of the film.

Himesh Reshammiya's music which was more traditional and mellifluous had two hit numbers which gave the right halo to the hero and his lady love. Though it was not as successful as the Tamil film, it turned out profitable for Boney Kapoor and his wife Sridevi, who continued to invest in films from her hometown till her demise.

For Abhishek, he still made his presence felt in that year with the multi-starrer humongous hit ' Dhoom' which became a franchise subsequently.
