Akshay Kumar is known for playing major roles in the films that are either socially empowering or centred around the country's achievements. This is one of the main reasons why people love his films and look up to him as an inspiration for the youth. However, a lot of times his Canadian citizenship has proved to be problematic for him and made people question his loyalty towards the nation.

But now, finally, the Mission Mangal actor has decided to give up his Canadian citizenship and applied for an Indian passport. During his recent appearance at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Akshay was quoted as saying, "I have now applied for the passport. I am an Indian and it hurts me that I am asked to prove that every time. My wife, my children are Indian. I pay my taxes here and my life is here."

When he was asked about the reason behind his decision to opt for Canadian citizenship in the first place, he said, "There was a time when I had 14 flops in a row and I was wondering what to do. One of my closest friends who stays in Canada told me 'come here and we will work together'. I started the process to get a Canadian passport because I felt my career was finished and I won't get more work here. But my 15th film worked and I never looked back. I never thought of changing my passport."

Akshay arrived at the event with his Good Newz co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan, who both arrived together twinning in black attire. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani and will be released during the end of this month.
