New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took to Twitter and condoled the passing away of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Modi described Rajput as "a bright young actor gone too soon".

"He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances," Modi tweeted.

Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, Smriti Irani, Ravi Shankar Prasad and several other political leaders condoled the death of the Bollywood actor.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed shock over the death of "India's rising star" and said that Rajput's death has left millions devastated.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also condoled the death of the actor.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh also condoled the death of the actor and said, "I am extremely disturbed with the news of passing away of Sushant Singh Rajput."

Former Uttar Pradesh CM and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also condoled the actor's death and said that his role of Indian cricketer MS Dhoni in his biopic will be remembered forever."
