While the trailer of Sugesh directed Malayalam movie Shakeela was dropped on June 28, movie buffs wondered what happened to the much talked about Indrajit Lankesh's directorial.
Indrajit Lankesh's Bollywood debut with Shakila biopic starring Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi had created a lot of buzz on the internet. As soon as the Malayalam trailer released, fans started asking Indrajit about his Shakila biopic.
Clearing the air Indrajit reportedly said that he had been flooded with phone calls and messages following the trailer release of the Malayalam movie. However, he says that he heard the Malayalam version is just a small documentary and the video went viral because the movie is named after Shakila. He also went on to add that it was not based on the life of the late actress.
Claiming complete rights over Shakila biopic, Indrajit Lankesh stated that it would be a women centric subject and had a good message for the audience. He also went on to say that the movie has even the Censor formalities and ready to hit theatres once the lockdown curbs ease.
He also said that he is in talks with OTT platforms and mulling the option of releasing the Shakila biopic on the video streaming app Netflix.
A MNC is said to have bagged the dubbing rights of the Shakila biopic in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
While Veera Samarth has scored the music for the Shakila biopic, Easter Noronha and Rajiv Pillai play key roles.
