The Bollywood and Sandalwood fraternity have come out in support of the farmers who are protesting in the national capital New Delhi against the agricultural laws (farm bills) proposed by the central government.
Farmers are bent upon pressurising the government to repeal these laws. The Bharat Bandh which was called by different unions was supported even by sandalwood actors and Sports personalities. Many Bollywood stars like Priyanka Chopra, Diljith, Sonam Kapoor, Rithesh Deshmukh and many other actors have stood by the farmers.
Sandalwood actors Shivarajkumar, Chetan Kumar, and lyricist Kaviraj have also supported these protests. Shivarajkumar tweeted saying that they stand by the farmers, and will always be with farmers. "Farmer is the backbone of the country. Country survives only because of farmer. We support their fight. We are always there for them to support in times of difficulties," thus has tweeted Shivarajkumar.
Chetan had expressed his displeasure over the silence of a few sandalwood actors. He had stated that the actors who grabs the first opportunity to canvass for politicians have not said a word in support of the farmers who are protesting.
It is a known fact that Farmers from Punjab and Haryana have marched to the national capital crossing the borders in Dilli Chalo movement and demanded that the Centre revoke the farm bills which they consider is anti-farmers.
Even though Centre has promised to protect the MSP, the farmers are in no position to listen. Besides, talks between the Centre and the farmers have failed.
