Karanam Malleshwari Biopic: The First Indian Women Olympic Medalist’s life story is all set to hit the screens

Currently, the production houses have caught a fancy for 'biopics' which are proving to be inspiring to people of all ages.

The trend of biopics started with the real-life story of Milka Singh, which besides retelling the forgotten story of the 'flying sikh man' brought into fore the acting prowess of Farhan Akhtar and a strong screenplay of struggle against odds and patriotism.

Also, the recent 'Mahanati' movie's record-breaking box office collection has been a driving force for the biopics.

According to sources, Sanjana Reddy is all set to make a biopic on the first Indian woman Olympic medal winner, Karanam Malleshwari.

She is not only a legend but has been an inspiration for women who want to pursue their career in sports. As of now, the lead actress is yet to be finalised, but Sanjana is thinking to rope in either Taapsee Pannu or Rakul Preet Singh who are known for their fit and toned body.

Karanam Malleshwari, is the first lady who proudly flaunted her muscles while competing and winning the first-ever individual Bronze medal in weightlifting in the prestigious Olympics stage.

However, her career journey was not at all a bed of roses… She made it with her hard work and fighting against all odds.

Malleshwari hailing from a small village in Andhra Pradesh, was trained by coach Neelamshetty Appanna right from the age of 12 and made her stand strong giving her the needed physique and mental strength.

Once in an interview, Malleshwari doled out that, "When I began weightlifting in 1987, there was immense pressure from all fronts against girls venturing into sports arena.

Our muscular bodies were never considered an appropriate shape for women." Malleswari is a winner of two gold medals at World Championships, two bronzes besides a pair of Asiad silver medals before stepping on the prestigious Olympics dais.

In 1994, when Malleshwari became the world champion, Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya also won Miss Universe and Miss World titles respectively. However, the beauty queens received a grand welcome at the airport, while Malleshwari had to wait for an auto-rickshaw to reach her place.

After the release of Bhaag Milka Bhaag movie in 2013, Sanjana fixed her mind to go with a biopic of Malleshwari. Now, after almost 7 years, the biopic is on cards.

This news was announced on the 45th birthday of Karanam Malleshwari through social media. This movie will be bankrolled by Kona Venkat and MVV Satyanarayana. The producers also released a poster with a tagline 'Journey of a girl who lifted the nation'.

Kona Venkat told the media that Malleshwari's poor background and her struggle inspired him to be a part of the biopic.

On the whole, Malleshwari's biopic is definitely creating a buzz and has already caught the pulse of movie buffs.
