Here's a look at the best and worst looks of 2023 vs 2024 Met Gala

Is it time for the much-awaited red carpet event? If you are a fashion enthusiast, then put your critic cap on. The annual fashion extravaganza 'Met Gala' took place on May 6, 2024. It was indeed a star-studded affair, with some celebrities staying true to the theme 'Garden of Time' while others went beyond it.

The Indian celebrities, including Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, Ambika Mod and Mona Patel, amongst others, made it to the limelight of this glamorous event. But Alia Bhatt stole the show with her custom mint green Sabyasachi saree. What's more, her designer made history as he became the first Indian designer to walk the Met Gala red carpet.

While fashion's biggest day surely saw some totally mesmerising looks, there were some utterly disappointing ones too that became topics of discussion for fans.

Here's a look at the best and worst looks of 2023 vs 2024 Met Gala

Revisiting 2023

Jenna Ortega: The 'Wednesday' star sported a custom cropped jacket and a reconstructed coat-draped skirt in black chiffon tweed with lacing detail, honouring several of Lagerfeld’s design characteristics without being excessive or dull. Her goth-inspired outfit surely made it to the eyes of the fans, making her one of the best-dressed celebrities for Met Gala 2023.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Priyanka Chopra Jonas chose a Maison Valentino outfit consisting of an all-black strapless gown adorned with a bow for her Met Gala look. Renowned for her extravagant red carpet choices, Piggy Chops understated black gown paired with an unusual hairstyle left fans disappointed, earning her the tag for a dull and unexciting appearance.

Doja Cat: Doja Cat went all above and beyond by opting for a cat-inspired look, highlighting Lagerfeld's love for cats. Remaining in character throughout the event, Doja's outfit definitely met the standards of the Met Gala.

Alia Bhatt: While all eyes were on Alia Bhatt making her debut at Met Gala 2023, her outfit choice did not quite live up to the hype. Although her white gown by Prabal Gurung was great, playing safe with her makeup and hair made her entire look stale and boring.

Terrific 2024

Zendaya: The co-host of the 2024 Met Gala, Zendaya, donned a floral masterpiece inspired by Dior's era, complemented by Bulgari jewellery. As if her one outfit wasn't a total hit, she made two red carpet appearances, the second in a Givenchy spring couture gown adorned with flowers and a Philip Treacy headpiece.

Alia Bhatt: The mint-green Sabyasachi saree worn by Alia Bhatt surely landed her in the headlines of Met Gala 2024. The saree featured a long train, intricately hand-embroidered with sequins and semi-precious stones, and embellished with glass beads along the edges. On top of it, her headgear and makeup acted as cherry on top of her look.

Chris Hemsworth: The absolute favourite of all, Chris Hemsworth's three-piece suit was a huge turn off, putting him out of the light. Especially given the fact that the Met Gala is all about glitz and glamour, the actor's choice of ensemble for the event turned out to be a disappointment for fans.

Tyla: South African singer Tyla's Balmain dress, crafted entirely from sand, created quite a stir at the big red carpet event. The skin-tight sand-appliquéd body cast, known as the ‘Sands of Time,’ had to be removed from her after the event because it was only meant to be worn once. While her ensemble was surely unique, it garnered mixed reactions from the fans, while some were in complete awe of her, others were quite disappointed as her look did not survive the night.

Met Gala 2024 was surely one hell of a show, featuring some out-of-the-box looks and, at the same time, quite predictable ones. While some celebrities embodied the true essence of the event, others left fans surprised or underwhelmed by their choices.
