Savithri is a legend on Indian Screen and she ruled 1950's and 60's as South Indian Female Superstar. Her life choices made her life a turbulent mess after reaching a peak in 1965-66, and the following 1970s were just one downward spiral added to another, by the time, she died in 1981.
Savithri is a legend on Indian Screen and she ruled 1950's and 60's as South Indian Female Superstar. Her life choices made her life a turbulent mess after reaching a peak in 1965-66, and the following 1970s were just one downward spiral added to another, by the time, she died in 1981.
The actress par excellence never won a National Award as the awards category for female actors started in 1967 and by the time, she crossed her prime as an actress. She should have won 3-5 National Awards for Telugu films like Mayabazaar, Missamma, Naadi Aada Janme, Kalasi Unte Kaladu Sukham, Athamabhanduvu, Doctor Chakravarthy, Mangalyabalam kind of films where she showed her prowess in mimicking, drama, comedy, supporting lead in all navarasas (nine standard emotions).
She managed to etch herself in the minds of Telugu people so much that she became a great example of how to become an actress and how not lose all the fortune, one is bestowed upon with questionable choices in life. Portraying her on-screen is a big dream for actresses along with achieving highs like her.
Keerthy Suresh, who promised her actor mother that she will one day win National Award and become top actress across the different languages, achieved that by dedicating a year of her life, to live like Savitri, to act like Savitri and to believe that she is Savitri, on-screen at least. She managed to find similarities with the real person, improved her acting skills so much that she doesn't just mimic Savithri.
She managed to understand what really went through her throughout her life and then, emoted it so perfectly under the able guidance of Nag Ashwin. Now, she won a National Award for her performance and we cannot really appreciate her anything less than this. This is not just a lifetime achievement for her but a lifetime achievement for every actress who dreams big and thinks they are unachievable.
If Keerthy Suresh, who started her acting career as lead two to three years before, transform so much that she becomes the pinnacle of acting talent, Savitri, on-screen and win accolades then the sky is the limit for her and women out there who think life is hard and it is filled with predators everywhere. You can do it and Keerthy Suresh is your inspiration. Congrats and thanks, Keerthy for Ghanaakeerthy (pride in Telugu).
