Mustafa, son of Abbas Burmawalla of the Abbas-Mustan director duo was recently seen in the short film 'The Last Meal'. The film is directed by Kumar Siddharth and produced by Mateen Merchant.
"Before becoming an actor, I have assisted three films ('Race 2', 'Players' and 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon'). While being behind the camera; I learnt a lot about acting as well and for an actor, it's a must. I made my debut in Bollywood with the film 'Machine', however, it was not an easy task to bag the role. I had to make a showreel (demo reel) to prove myself and had to showcase my acting and dancing skills as well. Then I went to New Delhi for personal training where my skills were polished by NK Sharma. And after that, the filming of 'Machine' commenced," Mustafa shared.
About his weight loss, he said, "My weight loss was just an ego boost. A friend of mine challenged me that I can't lose weight and get a chiselled physique. I took it positively and worked on myself. I followed my diet religiously with my workouts thrice a week. And from that day on I still haven't stopped working out or dieting as it has become a part of my lifestyle now. Through this journey, I realised that diet is the most important factor when it comes to losing weight."
Did being the son of Abbas helped him? Mustafa said, "Actually, having a filmy background is difficult because you are under constant pressure as you have such a big name behind you, and you have to carry that forward. It helped me in a way that you get an opportunity and you have to work on it and give your 200 per cent in that."
Mustafa informed that the director of the short film 'The Last Meal' Kumar Siddharth and producer Mateen Merchant him with this idea of a short film. "When I heard the concept and the script, I instantly said yes, as I loved the overall story of the film and the character, which was something I always wanted to play as an actor. The message given in the end attracted me the most."
About the short film, he said, "This film is an emotional drama between a mother and son. The son is going on a mission and doesn't know if he will be back. So, his mom feeds him his best dishes before he heads for the mission. The emotional scene between a mother and a son on the dinner table is 'The Last Meal'."
About his experience with Zarina Wahab, he said, "When I came to know that Zarina ma'am will be playing my mom I was really happy, and I was glad that it was her. She treated me like her son throughout the shoot. Guiding me on set with scenes and when it came to perform. I was comfortable and we did not have to act much when the camera rolled as everything just came out naturally."
Sharing about his future projects he said, "There a few more projects which will be announced officially very soon. I hope 2020 will be good for me… fingers-crossed."
