On being a woman and style icon: Kareena Kapoor Khan
It’s a great film, I feel the role that I will be doing is also going to be an iconic one – Kareena Kapoor on her role in her upcoming Hindi film opposite Aamir Khan, a remake of ‘Forest Gump’
Manish Malhotra show Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in Hyderabad was all about his summer collection 'My Identity, My Pride' and the stunning Kareena Kapoor Khan was his show- stopper. "I connect with that entire theme of identity and pride. And that is something that I take great pride in because I am a working modern Indian mother, wife…and I balance my life by saying no to a few things. I cut back on certain things and sacrifice a lot, but I don't look at it like that because I love spending time with my family," says Kareena during an interview during the show where she sported a resplendent lehenga in ivory designed by her favourite designer.
She has been a regular feature on his shows, and he designed for most of her films, "I am 39 now and it's almost 30 year of friendship on two deals. We have seen each other grow in every possible department in life. I have seen him grow as well, from the time he did his first film and the struggles. I truly think he's a remarkable human being, a remarkable designer. I would say he's a master of his own balance because I think what he can do, only a few can do. I think he's truly one of a kind."
After a long break, she has decided to work in the remake of Hollywood blockbuster, 'Forest Gump', where she be playing the role of Jenny and will be seen opposite Aamir Khan. She is pretty excited about it. "It's a great film, I feel the role that I will be doing is also going to be an iconic one; of course, it's going to be an Indianised one, and it's going to shock a lot of people. The film is still in the making. I am very excited for this release as the expectations are high as well."
Kareena is a busy mother, but she makes time for her fashion show appearances, films and her show on You Tube as well, "I do not take the pressure at all. I am always much calm and composed. I am more of a realist. I am very practical in the decisions I take," she shares her mantra of life.
Her online show 'What Women Want' has become very popular. She shares, "This is one of a kind, show. It's never happened before that a mainstream actor comes on a show and talks about things that not many women come out and talk outside in the open. We had people coming and talking about dating, divorce, single parenting, we touched topics that many people choose to ignore. So, I think through the show, I have got to know people, have got to meet interesting people. And, that's why we went into the second season. We just finished shooting the show."
The fashionista has some common 'fashion' sense she discloses for the benefit of style-struck youngsters, "People should just be themselves; problem is people are just trying to be someone else because of the digital media and trying to impress. Simple jeans and boots are perfect and the grandest outfit they can see themselves in."
Speaking on Tollywood movies, she says, "I have never acted in a south film because I can't speak the language. But I admire the work being done here. Actors like Prabhas, Mahesh Babu, Charan and all of them; it's incredible to see the kind of amazing industry they have put together."
