Handloom women weavers; the hands that create the magical fabrics in their unassuming best, prominent women from various fields making a statement by wearing some of their best handloom sarees, designers who chose to work with weavers of Narayanpet and Ikat fabrics along with of weavers and handlooms who have passionately been working towards promotion of the age-old crafts of our land were all there for one of the most happening celebrations on National Handloom Day in Hyderabad at Hotel Green Park on August 7.

The founder of Handloom Day Y VenkannaNetha spoke at the event and explained the genesis of the idea and how he worked towards taking the theme of various handloom centres, and eventually impressing upon the prime minister and his government, eventually leading to declaring August 7 as National Handloom Day.

Speaking at the event Bina Rao of Creative Bee who has been working since decades with weavers, spoke about Mac Societies and how they are going to impact development of handlooms and weavers.

The event also had a ramp walk where models walked in Bina Rao's creations which predominantly use Ikat and are distinctly traditional, with modern silhouettesgiving them an edge to appeal to youngsters as well. One could see immense creativity manifested in an amazing variety in terms of designing the Ikat patterns making them exclusive and commercially viable. She appeared on the stage with her models and the women weavers working with her.

Sudha Rani's Abhihaara presented three designers Hemanth Siri, Rama Rabbapragada and…Women achievers from various professions walked in her designs, and the models also included former actress Renu Desai, visually challenged scholar Priyanka and transgenerHarshiniMekala.

Swapna, singer, radio jockey and Consulting Editor, 10 TV hosted the event and walked the ramp with Ratna Rao Sekhar, Editor, Wow Magazine. Also present for the event were activist Shanta Sinha, actor, TV anchor Jhansi, Doctor Manjula Anagani among several others.
