Plea to set up exam centre at Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Doctors in the state appealed to Union minister for health Dr Harsh Vardhan to postpone the entrance examination for super specialty course in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) scheduled for June 11 in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr P Meroz of Vijayawada, who has completed MD (General Medicine), wants to appear for the entrance examination for the super specialty training in the AIIMS.

He chose the centre for writing the examination at Chennai since there is no centre in Andhra Pradesh and at the time he applied there was no threat of Covid.

However, in the wake of the lockdown now, there is no transportation to the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. Moreover, Chennai is one of the high case load cities in the country.

"Due to the travel restrictions I can't not go to Chennai and my parents are worried to take risk," Dr Meroz said.

If the doctors could not appear for the entrance test, they have to forgo one academic year, the doctors said.

Hence, the doctors appealed to the Union minister to postpone the super specialty exam and to sanction an examination centre at Vijayawada, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh where already the AIIMS exists.
