Visakhapatnam: GITAM Deemed to be University celebrated Engineers' Day here on Sunday to mark the 159th birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and as a tribute to an Indian engineer who was conferred with the Bharat Ratna in 1955.

GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivaramakrishna, Pro Vice-Chancellor Profb N Sivaprasad, Registrar Prof.KVGDBalaji and other senior faculty members offered floral tributes at Visvesvaraya statue at Visvesvaraya Bhavan at GITAM Campus.

While addressing the gathering Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivaramakrishna emphasised that honesty towards constant learning carves the path to achieving higher goals in life. He elaborated that the role of an engineer does not end at achieving the title, rather goes much beyond for the larger good of the society.

GITAM Hyderabad campus Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof N Sivaprasad mentioned that MV's engineering genius reflected in channeling of water resources and construction and consolidation of dams across India.

Besides, his outstanding planning skills not just bolstered irrigation facilities in India, but also saved thousands of people from ravaging floods. He said that the engineers of the modern era are playing an important role in constantly revolutionizing technology, making everything around you simpler and bringing you closer to the nature.

Four such engineers of India have made us proud by impacting the lives of citizens of the world, he added. GITAM Institute of Technology In-Charge Principal Prof C Dharmaraj, large number of students and faculty participated in the event.
