RBVRR Women's College organises Human Library in Hyderabad
RBVRR women’s college on Saturday organised a three hour session with ‘Human Library Hyderabad’.
Hyderabad: RBVRR women's college on Saturday organised a three hour session with 'Human Library Hyderabad'. The event aimed to promote social and cultural sensitivity among students. Human library introduced eleven books to the students.
They included diverse areas such as "Raising LGBTQ children", "The TurnCoat- Atheism and Religion", "My happy size", "Transgender woman", "Don't "Dis" My Abilities", "Gender Conundrum - Breaking the binary" among others.
Human library has been conducted in over 70 countries across the world. Human Library is a library of people; it replaces books with human beings. It is an international organisation that aims to challenge prejudice against social contact among people. "The Human Library is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. It is a place where real people are on loan to readers.
A place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered," explains Harshad Dinkar Fad, founder of Human Library in Hyderabad. Dr K Sarada, Principal of the college initiated the programme. The Human Library was attended by hundred students of the college from various disciplines.
The event was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college to introduce to students an eclectic range of challenging concepts and questions that could help them understand the complicacies of our contemporary society. It was one of the many programmes conducted by the IQAC for the growth of students.
Students enthusiastically consulted each other regarding their choice of books. Some of the books were checked out more than once. Sahiti C, a student of BA II year said that the conversations with books lent her a "new perspective" towards her own self. Syeda Ghousia , BBM II years found how a simple chat around a table could become a great source of learning.
A renewed perception of reality and a critical approach to life was two of the major takeaways of the event. Human Library Hyderabad created an intellectually stimulating and culturally challenging atmosphere, and made an impact that would stay for long with the students.
