Symposium held on 'Academia-Industry Exchange in Language Technology'
‘Young minds of today are the future leaders of tomorrow’.
Hyderabad: 'Young minds of today are the future leaders of tomorrow'.
With an intent to substantiate this idea, the symposium 'Academia-Industry Exchange in Language Technology' was conducted by Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies at the University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
This information society relies on technology to break all the barriers.
Industry with this abundant paraphernalia alone cannot fulfil the needs.
Whereas academia, well equipped knowledge, alone lacks the means of application of knowledge.
So, through this symposium we could bring together the experts in both the fields under one roof and have an interaction with a versatile audience including undergraduates, post graduates, research scholars as well as faculty members.
The discussions primarily involved the variations in languages that pose as impediments for the engineers and the market scientists in dealing with Natural Language Processing, Machine Translation and Machine Learning, Speech-to-speech and Speech-to-text transcription and also advertisement markets.
Beginning the discussion with need for technological advancements in Indian Languages and the ambiguities and contextual information that make such advancements difficult, the academics enlightened the audience about their need and necessity outside classrooms.
The primary emphasis of the technology experts was on the need of trained linguists ready to unravel the complexities of a language for wider reachability.
A concern that was brought to attention is the absence of tangible existence of Indian languages in the technological world. Penetrating these issues with several interactive sessions, the academia and the industry took a step forward together in order to resolve such issues and make a mark globally.
We hope this synergy will lead us to bridge the gap and be fulfilled in terms of Language and Technology.
