Hyderabad: Suravajjula Maitreyee, who interned with The Hans India, won the prestigious Yudhveer gold medal for securing highest marks in Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) for the year 2016-18 of Osmnia University. She will receive the medal from the Governor during the OU convocation to be held in Tagore Auditorium on Monday.

A student of Rachana Journalism College, 23-year-old Maitreyee thanked The Hans India management and editorial team leaders for having taught her the basics of practical journalism during her three month internship. "I learnt a lot at The Hans India. This experience helped me answer questions in my examinations," she said. Maitreyee in a way fulfilled the desire of his father, Dr S Ramu, who had narrowly missed the Yudhveer gold medal 20 years ago.

"My father studied MCJ in OU's Arts College in 1998-99. He won a gold medal in project report but missed the Yudhveer medal by three marks. He mentioned about his disappointment to me. Thankfully, I am taking the medal home for his joy," Maitreyee said.
