Vizagites gear up for the weekend event

Visakhapatnam: Friendship Day is around the corner and Vizagites are gearing up to make this weekend special right from buying friendship bands to dedicating poems and exchanging gifts to make their friends feel special.

Following the old trend

Few prefer sticking to old school method by sending postcards and e-mails to their buddies. For Nidhi Agarwal, Friendship Day has always been about writing small snippets to her friends. She says, "Every year on Friendship day I write a small snippet in a tiny post card. What makes it even more special is it is being delivered along with a pouch of homemade chocolates. I want them to know how much they mean to me."

Similarly, even Shravani believes in celebrating the day with a personal touch by sending e-mail in the age sending short texts. "I am a typical old school girl when it comes to expressing love and I believe in sending long paragraphs to my friends who are settled abroad. It is quite easy to use Facebook or Whatsapp for the purpose but I prefer sticking to e-mails because it has got an old world charm."

Baked goodies and chocolate lovers

Some Vizagites have booked chocolate hampers through Instagram to surprise their dear ones. Vineesha Hemrajani, from The Confection Connexion, Instagram shop, says "I have curated a special box for Friendship Day where customers get to choose cupcakes, brownies and mini-cakes for their buddies."

Open mikers

The storytellers and poets of Vizag feel open mike in a cozy- cafeteria is the best way to express their love to their loved ones. Nitish Roy and Namrata Pradeep, husband and wife say, "We are going to participate in an open mike session and dedicate poems and, of course, flashback stories. We also intend to share some of our amazing moments with the audience there. It's going to be fun."

Live music

The foreign students in the city are going to have a fun-filled weekend by listening to Live Music FT of Shamuel Susheel from Hyderabad. Issac Yedla, Partner of The Bean Board says,"Shamuel is a singer from Hyderabad who writes his own songs and also besides, we are going to have quite a lot of international students in the evening with their friends from 5 pm to 8 pm at one of our outlets at Rama Naidu Studio."

Adventure junkies

Adventure junkies in the city would spend their time with friends by walking along the eucalyptus plantations and an early morning trek soaked in the beauty of nature. Treksome, an adventure group is organising a 3.2 km trek is scheduled at 5 a.m. near Hanumanthawaka Kalabhairava temple. Gift shops are abuzz with activity as friendship bands, cutest goodies, accessories and greeting cards are flying off the shelves. Prakash Jain from Archies Gallery, says, "Friendship bands are popular among school kids not much among adults. This year, the demand is more for coffee mugs, photo frames and a host of accessories. However, only 20% of customers are buying greeting cards."
