Young filmmaker Yerra Tapasi Raju, who hails from Warangal, represented India at the 4th BRICS Film Festival which was held in Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Hyderabad: Young filmmaker Yerra Tapasi Raju, who hails from Warangal, represented India at the 4th BRICS Film Festival which was held in Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

"I was passionate about films so I moved from Warangal to Hyderabad and joined the Annapurna College of Film and Media. Traveling to new places makes me learn many things like the education system which is completely different there. Their concepts and ideologies are very different from ours. It was through college that I got the opportunity to take part in the festival. We were three members who got into the finals and were told to write a motivation letter to BRICS and I was the only one who got selected," says Raju.

"It has been an unforgettable experience, meeting new people from different countries. A total of 15 people are taking part in BRICS. Four of us were divided in different groups. We would shoot in Brazil and make a documentary," he added.

Fourteen people from different countries participated in the BRICS film festival which had representation from five countries, spread over 17 days with54 films, four screenings and seven other related activities. Raju was the only one from the country to take part in the film festival.

Geoffrey Gaspard, a 24-year-old of Indian-origin also participated in the BRICS Film Festival. He did his graduation of BA in filmmaking with specialisation in cinematography from Whistling Woods International in Mumbai.

"My experience at BRICS was very inspiring. Tapasi and I spent two weeks with 14 students from different countries and we made an experimental documentary film. We shot in Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi." says Geoffrey. Geoffrey made two documentary feature films, the first one Tavela was made in 2018. This film is about traditional martial art in Madagascar called Morengy.

The second feature is 'Shaadi karlo, Pyaar Toh ho Jayega' made in 2019 this film is about arrange marriage in India. "My goal is to make films in the Indian Ocean Region between India, Madagascar and France. India's presence in the islands of the Indian Ocean exists but there are great stories to tell to tighten the relationships among all the countries. Making films that enhance all the cultures together is the dream." he added.
