Richard Browning, Founder and Chief Test Pilot of Gravity Industries, has flown into the record books once again; smashing his own record for the Fastest speed in a body-controlled jet engine powered suit whilst facing his toughest conditions yet. Richard surpassed his previous record by over double, this time achieving an unprecedented speed of 85.06mph!

Browning battled the elements on the British coast; soaring alongside Brighton Pier this morning, 14 November, to mark Guinness World Records Day (GWR Day) and embodying this year's Spirit of Adventure theme. Guinness World Records Editor in Chief, Craig Glenday, was on hand to verify the attempt on the day.

Richard Browning, record holder said:

"I'm really very pleased, very chuffed – it's the fastest I've ever been, even in training. Having Brighton pier there, flying by an iconic landmark was really special. It was so exhilarating to achieve this on Guinness World Records Day alongside thousands of other people breaking records all around the world. A lot has changed since we flew 32mph two years ago, it's a completely different suit, and I wanted to show how far we've come."

Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records Editor in Chief said:

"No one embodies the spirit of adventure like Richard Browning. He's smashed his previous record and in much more challenging conditions. We are delighted to honour him again for this huge achievement on Guinness World Records Day "

Richard initially set the record back in 2017, not long after launching Gravity Industries, at Lagoona Park in Reading, where he reached a speed of 32.02mph. This year despite facing much tougher conditions, Richard surpassed this by a significant margin; demonstrating the development and progression in the technology of the suit.

Successful records from across the world also announced on Guinness World Records Day include:

♦ UAE – Fastest time to swim 5km pulling a kayak: 2hrs, 42 minutes

♦ USA – The longest underhand basketball shot: 26.02 m

♦ France – Youngest person to reach the south pole solo: 27 years, 40 days

♦ Japan – Most people doing double under skips in a relay: 188

♦ China – Longest journey on an electric scooter: 6,267 miles

♦ India – Fastest 400 m on roller skates blindfolded (female): 51.25 seconds

Taken straight from a chapter in Guinness World Records 2020, the Spirit of Adventure celebrates adventurers and boundary pushers from around the world.

First held in 2004 to mark Guinness World Records becoming the best-selling copyright book of all time, GWR Day has inspired some now iconic record-breaking achievements. This year over 1000 applications were received from aspiring record breakers across the world, hoping to attempt records on GWR Day to secure their place in the next edition of the book. Guinness World Records Day 2019 will take place on Thursday 14th November.

About Gravity Industries

Gravity Industries designs, builds and flies Jet Suits, pioneering a new era of human flight. The company, which is scaling towards an International Race Series, was founded to challenge perceived boundaries in human aviation and to inspire others to dare to ask "What if?"Launched in March 2017, the business secured $650,000 investment within the first two months from Tim & Adam Draper, Tim best known for his early investments in Baidu Inc., Tesla and Skype. Founder and Chief Test Pilot, Richard Browning, leveraged cutting edge technology to reimagine human flight, forging an elegant partnership between mind, body and machine. This vision led to the creation of the world's first patented Jet Suit. The Jet Suit currently can perform speeds in excess of 50mph and is technically capable of reaching an altitude of 12,000ft (although for safety purposes is flown lower).

Gravity Industries' extended team - made up of over 30 diverse and talented individuals, from engineers to pilots, across five different countries - has enabled the brand to be experienced by over a billion people globally to date, with video views alone running at more than 60million within seven days of launch. In the last two years Gravity executed over 90+ flight events across 30 countries including four TED talks.
