The average American consumes around 20 teaspoons, or 80 grams of sugar a day, but women are advised to limit their added sugar intake to 6 teaspoons or 24 grams a day, and men, limiting to 9 teaspoons or 36 grams. On average it can rise easily, especially because of the amount of evidence that tells us that sugar has the potential to cause addiction like some street drugs, with the same effect on the brain.
