If there is one relationship in this world which transcends all others, a bond so pure that it defies description, it is that between a child and its mother. No matter how old you are, your mother always holds a special place in your universe. Mother's Day celebrated on the second Sunday of May in most countries is dedicated to this special figure who has a divine position in the journey of one's life.

Mother's Day is a day set apart from the rest, to make all mothers feel loved, cared for and special. This year Mother's Day will be celebrated on the 10th of May.

Lockdown

Amidst the ongoing nationwide lockdown, for many, it would not be easy to celebrate Mother's Day with one's mother or parents. Consider it a blessing if you happen to be with your mother. Remember, there is no greater gift you can give her then your time.

This Mother's Day, give your mother much-needed respite from her usual routine. If she spends a lot of time in the kitchen, as most mothers tend to, make sure she does not step in there and instead spend her time relaxing.

Share the load

Do as many household chores as you can to give your mother a much-needed break. With maids and house-helps being forced to stay away during the lockdown in most households, mothers have been struggling to keep the home and hearth going along with a number of housekeeping chores. Lighten the load and chip in with some assistance in changing linen, doing the dishes, cleaning and scrubbing, among other things.

Cook something special

If you can do that bit of cooking, give Mother's Day a special touch and cook something for her. It can be something simple which she would find interesting. If your culinary skills are reasonably good then raise the bar a bit higher and make her feel special. Preparing something she likes would add that extra bit of surprise to make her feel loved. If you can bake a cake for the occasion, nothing like it.

Diaspora

If you are away from your mother, whether in India or overseas, plan to spend as much virtual time as you can with her. Make a video call, involve your siblings and try to make as much time for her online as you can.

The situation in many parts of the world with coronavirus sweeping through continents is much worse as compared to India. One of the ways for members of the diaspora community to battle depression in these difficult and challenging times is to stay connected with loved ones, especially one's mother. It is also a sure way of telling her sorrows and apprehensions about the condition of her children abroad. And what better occasion than Mother's Day!

Make a collage of pictures, a video with a recorded message which will please her no end. A handcrafted card for the occasion will lift up her spirits as few things can. Express your gratitude, love and admiration for her. Do everything you possibly can to convey to your mother that she means more to you than anyone else in this world.
