World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2020: Treat Your Elders With Love and justice
They say that the first and foremost knowledge and teachings comes from the grand parents who are categorised as elderly people.
They say that the first and foremost knowledge and teachings comes from the grand parents who are categorised as elderly people. But often they are mistreated due the younger generations becoming more commercial and are forgetting the value of love and care, which is making the giant families turn into smaller ones only with husband, wife and their children's. This is leading to the teachings from the elders.
Nowadays, many of them are leaving them in old-age homes or flying to abroad and are forgetting the value of parents, thus making the elders ending at streets who are being seen begging on the roads although they are not orphans.
So, on this 'World Elder Abuse Day 2020', which fall today, we need to pay attention on the problems of elders in terms of physical, emotional and financial abuse. Thus the main aim of WEAAD is to encourage society to recognize the problems of elderly abuse and create awareness among the people by coming up with new policies that foster respect for elders.
Going by the history, World Elder Abuse Day is observed in June 15 every year and recognized as 'World Elder Abuse Awareness Day' by United Nations General Assembly officially. This day came into existence with the request from the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA), which found the elder people getting abused in any which way.
The significance of the day is to create awareness over the issue which is now a global issue as most of the today's generation people have no time and they feel that they are superior and creating embarrassment to them. The most vital thing most of us need to realise is that they don't need money or material, they just need love and care along with three times a meal together will make them feel happy. People these days are forgetting parents and making them stay in old age homes when they turn 60 and above without recognising their importance nor thinking about their future.
According to the Statistics, more than ten percent of elderly people are prone to the abuse in various forms be it neglecting, physical abuse, exploitation and etc. The theme for the year Elder Justice. Hence we need to strive for the elder justice in coming days because one day we too may get to sixties and old-age.
It is high time for us to take this seriously in this unprecedented times to raise public awareness over elderly abuse through various forms to set them free from embarassment.
