Since the first World Milk Day was held in 2001, many countries spread throughout the world have participated in the celebrations and the number is growing each year.

Why hold a World Mild Day?












The Day provides an opportunity to focus attention on milk and to publicize activities connected with milk and the milk industry. The fact that many countries choose to do this on the same day lends additional importance to individual national celebrations and shows that milk is a global food.

Where did it all begin?













Food&Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations was asked to propose a specific day where all aspects of milk could be celebrated.

Why June 1st?












This Specific date was chosen because a number of countries were already celebrating a national milk day on or around this time. Late May proposed, but countries like China felt they already had too many celebrations in that month. While most countries hold their celebrations on June 1st, some choose to hold them a week or so before or after this date. Some chose to hold them a week later or before this date.

Milk is a rich source of Calcium, other Nutrients and it offers a range of health benefits. Milk is not only consumed by growing children but also by all age groups. It is an important part of our daily diet. It has great nourishing value and a rich source of Calcium, protein, fat and Vitamin C. Mainly we get milk from cows, buffaloes and from other animals like sheep, goat, and camel.

World Milk Day 2019: Theme

World Milk Day never follows a particular theme, This Theme concept is decided by their own countries, governments, and non-governmental organizations.

The Theme for World Milk Day 2019 in India is Drink Milk: Today & Everyday












There will be various campaigns organized on this day in India at the Indian Veterinary Research Insitute (IVRI) where they focus on safe, hygiene milk production and consumption. In this campus itself, the milk would be boiled in huge pans and hot milk will be served in earthen pots to children, women and other participating men and women. it will also be followed by a poster making competition for children on the importance of milk in human life with a motivational lecture emphasizing necessity on milk consumption.

As we all know that in India, families from rural or farm areas consume milk and milk products in various forms like fresh milk, ghee, buttermilk, curd, sweets, etc. They boil milk in big pans and consume it. Also, there is a tradition in some families to serve lassi to there guests in big glasses.

The Main Objectives Of The World Milk Day

♦ To Provide information about the need and importance of milk in a human beings life

♦Various activities are organized on this day to raise awareness about milk and milk products.

♦To celebrate the contribution of milk and dairy products in several industries, the economy and in people's lives

♦to educate people about the nutrients that are present in the milk and like calcium, protein, Vitamin B2, Potassium, Iodine et

♦Several promotional activities about milk and its importance are launched by the International Dairy Federation on its online website

♦Various promotional activities are done in public.












SIGNIFICANCE OF WORLD MILK DAY












The motive behind the World Milk Day is to make people aware of how important is to drink MILK every day. It is the first Food that ever child consumes immediately after birth. And perhaps it is the one food that a human will consume for his/her lifelong. In fact, it is the first food for any living being that took birth in the world and fed. Most of the nutrients that a human body required is present in MILK. Did you know that the dairy sector supports the livelihood of up to one billion people worldwide?
