Coronavirus in India: India recorded 2,71,202 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday. The daily positivity rate is at 16.28 per cent.

The fresh infections are 2,369 more than yesterday. On Saturday, India logged 2,68,833 fresh COVID-19 cases.

The total cases of COVID-19 infection in the country has gone upto 3,71,22,164, while the active cases stand at 15,50,377.

Active cases account for 4.18 per cent of the total cases.

Meanwhile, 314 people have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours. The death toll now stands at 4,86,066.

According to the health ministry, 1,38,331 people recovered from the COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours taking the recovery tally to 3,50,85,721. The recovery rate is currently at 94.51 per cent.

7,743 cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been detected so far in the country.

Coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh reported 4570 fresh cases taking the total tally to 21,06,280 cases across the state. While coming to fatalities, one death reported on Sunday in Chittoor taking the toll to 14510. On the other hand, as many as 669 new patients were cured in the last twenty four hours taking the total recoveries to 20,65,000 and there are currently 26,770 active cases.

According to district-wise data, Chittoor district reported 1124 new infections, followed by Visakhapatnam 1028 and Guntur 368 while West Godavari has logged the least cases with 95 new cases in the last twenty-four hours.

Coronavirus in Telangana: Telangana on Sunday recorded 2,047 new COVID-19 cases and took the tally to 7,09,209. The death toll rose to 4,057 with three more fatalities.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of fresh cases with 1,174 followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (178) and Ranga Reddy (140) district, a bulletin said while providing details as of 5.30 PM today. A total of 2,013 people recovered from the infection today. The cumulative number of recoveries till date was 6,83,104.

The number of active cases stood at 22,048, the bulletin said.

Telangana govt extends holidays for educational institutions till January 30

In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, the Telangana government on Sunday extended vacations for all educational institutions till January 30, 2022. "It has been decided to extend the vacation of all educational institutions in Telangana till January 30, 2022," office of Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar tweeted. Earlier, the State government declared holidays for all educational institutions from January 8 to 16.

Karnataka weekend curfew: Police strictly enforcing weekend curfew

The weekend curfew imposed by the Karnataka government from Friday night to Monday morning in view of the spread of Covid-19 is being strictly enforced by the police.

Police personnel are on strict vigil to ensure that vehicles and people are not moving unnecessarily on the roads, reported PTI.

Barricades have been erected at various places. Most of the roads are deserted, while a few buses are operating with a small number of passengers. Those violating curfew norms are being penalised by the police in all places.

    TN police crack down on violators of Covid curbs

    Over Rs 3 crore has been levied as fine on violators of Covid curbs across Tamil Nadu and more than 300 vehicles have been seized for breach of night curfew in Chennai, police said on Sunday.
