Coronavirus in India: In another significant single-day spike amid the ongoing resurgence, India logged 37,479 new Covid-19 cases in a span of 24 hours, taking the overall active infection tally to 1,71,830, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Tuesday.

The active caseload now accounts for 0.49 per cent of the country's total positive cases, according to the Ministry.

Also in the same period, the country registered 124 new Covid fatalities, which increased the nationwide death toll to 4,82,017.

Meanwhile, the Omicron infection tally has climbed at 1,892, of which 766 have been discharged from hospitals.

So far, at least 23 states have reported Omicron cases, said the Ministry.

Coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh reported 334 fresh Coronavirus cases taking the total tally to 20,77,942 cases across the state. While coming to fatalities, one new death registered in the last twenty four hours in Nellore taking total toll to 14,499.

Coronavirus in Telangana: 10 new Omicron & 1,052 COVID19 positive cases have been detected in Telangana today. Of them 5 are from non-risk countries & 5 from 'at risk' countries. The total tally of Omicron Variant is 94 in the state of which 37 have recovered so far

    Karnataka News Updates: Checkposts will come up in border regions having village-to-village contact to stop COVID surge: Karnataka CM

    With rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and Kerala, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said checkposts will be set up in places where there are village-to-village contacts between Karnataka and neighbouring states.

    He also said the police station under the jurisdiction will be responsible for such checkposts.

    "Our experiences since the first and second wave have been that the infections in Karnataka rise whenever COVID-19 cases spiral in our neighbouring states, with whom we have daily business activities. We have to focus on that area," Bommai told reporters. (PTI)

    Special measures needed to contain COVID-19 outbreak in Bengaluru: Karnataka minister

    Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday insisted upon special measures for Bengaluru amid an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in the city.

    Stating that the third wave of COVID-19 has set in, Sudhakar predicted that the state capital will be an epicentre of the latest outbreak.

    "Taking special steps in Bengaluru has become very necessary. Bengaluru is an epicentre. It was an epicentre in the first wave and second wave. It will be the epicentre during the third wave as well," Sudhakar told reporters here. (PTI)

    Bihar cabinet minister Jibesh Kumar on Tuesday said that imposing lockdown was not possible every time and people should understand this problem and 'live with corona'.

    Odisha reports highest Covid-19 cases in over 3 months

    Odisha recorded the highest single-day jump in Covid-19 cases in over three months on Tuesday as 680 more people tested positive, the Health Department said. The daily positivity rate surged to 1.31 per cent from 0.77 per cent a day ago, while 119 children, or 17.5 per cent of the fresh cases, were infected in the past 24 hours, a bulletin stated. (PTI)
