It is unjust and unfair to question the wisdom of the ECI's orders on the three senior police officers of AP. (Election commission under cloud, The Hans India, 28 March).

In this regard, as we all know, it is the political neutrality, that is the hallmark of a disciplined civil service in a democracy. It is also generally acknowledged fact that a civil servant is not only rule minded and should be seen as unbiased.

As a public servant, he is the servant of the people and the rule of law, but not the slave of political master.

Particularly, during the election time, it is the responsibility of these civil servants to ensure level playing field for all the political parties in the fray.

In the instant case of the three senior police officers of AP, serious allegations of misconduct have been raised by the opposition party, and the ECI, in the interest of free and fair election, has taken a decision, which is just and proper.

Instead of questioning the ECI, we the people should question the VVIP violators of MCC, including our PM, CM, and Governor, (Rajasthan), for brazenly flouting the law of the land.
