Why this travel rush during polls?

It forever eludes me as to why such a huge rush of electorate travel from Hyderabad to various towns and villages, in particular to Andhra Pradesh on the eve of every General Elections.

Is it that such electorate, in spite of their living in Hyderabad for several decades, continue to have their votes in their original places only? I shudder at the very thought of me staying permanently at Hyderabad and my vote being at a different place.

Visiting native places on festival occasions and the consequent rush is understandable but why this sort of exodus? For a person like me, who stayed in a different locality for long and moved to a the present location subsequently ,I recently had gone through the voter ID card obtaining procedure and got it.

Yesterday I reached the polling booth by walk. So much of public expenditure and large scale inconvenience can be avoided.
