Rahmathnagar: The identified families living in huts on the stretch of Rahamathnagar outpost-Sriram Nagar, and some from Karmika Nagar have been rehabilitated.

More than 300 families moved into the 2BHK houses built for them at Beeramguda in Pantancheru, RR district. Families which were living in huts were relocated to Bheeramguda on Wednesday and the huts on the stretch were completely razed on Thursday.

One of the elated dwellers, Durga, said, "It was a much-awaited moment and the happiness cannot be expressed in words. Thanks to the MLAs, officials and everyone who strived to helped us. We will start a new life working hard to earn better livelihoods. It's a truly heart-whelming gesture by the Telangana government."

"As we promised, we performed our duties without any errors and inconveniences. Though it was late but, it is a great pleasure to provide proper shelter for the dwellers. At the beginning we provide shelter for 210 families and in the latest incidence, we gave shelter to 150 more families.

It was delayed only because the construction happened late. As the construction works wound up in no time, we immediately shifted the dwellers to Bheeramguda in Patacheru. I wish the relocated families proper livelihood," said Krishna, senior revenue officer of RR district.

"Relocation of huts from the stretch widened the road and created space for hurdle-free traffic. It's a good thing to give shelter to the needy," observed Venkatesh, a resident of Karmikanagar.

Speaking about their long wait, a dweller said, "It's been four-and-a-half years that we are living in these half-roof huts and we always believed government stands by us. Hearty gratitude to leaders for considering us with utmost priority," said Durgesh, a dweller on the stretch. On the flip side, some dwellers refused to vacant the huts, claiming that Beeramguda was far away and it would be difficult to find work there.
