Rajendranagar: The Health and Fitness Club at College of Agriculture of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) initiated a 'fitness drive' for the students on Friday.

According to university authorities, under this initiative, all the students (number around 1,000 on campus) will get their health profile done at newly renovated university health centre. The health centre has a diagnostic lab well equipped with latest equipments handled by an expert lab technicians.

Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao launched this programme. He said that the university is providing world-class infrastructure for teaching as well as research activities as well as best health center, sports equipment and gym facilities for the students. The main objective is to ensure good health to the students he said.

As part of this initiative, in the first phase, all student's health profiling will be carried out at the university health center. Based on the health profile of students, diet will be planned in the university hostels, said the VC. He further said that the database with respect to their blood group, blood profiling, other crucial parameters will be documented. This information will be used to sensitise the students on how to balance between the studies and health.

Appropriate initiatives such as healthier menu in the hostel, encouragement to use the existing gym facilities, marathon runs, jogging, playing sports, healthier habits, personal hygiene, healthier surrounding will be taken up at the campus.

The whole initiative is free of cost for the students. This is for the first time that the students are offered such services by the University on such a large scale. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr.V.Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Dean of Agriculture, Dr J Satyanarayana, Associate Dean, Dr Seema, Medical Officer In-charge, Dr GECH Vidya Sagar, doctors, staff and students were present on the occasion.
