Begumpet: Telangana Selected Teachers' Union members tried to lay siege to Pragati Bhavan on Tuesday, but their attempts were foiled as police arrested several protesters and stopped them from reaching the CM camp office.

The union was protesting against the delay in issuing posting orders to selected candidates. They were arrested and shifted to Goshamahal stadium. Hundreds of police were deployed to prevent candidates from reaching the CM's official residence.

BC leaders R Krishnaiah, Gujja Krishna, Harshavardhan Reddy and other teacher union leaders, who tried to meet arrested protesters, were not allowed into the stadium. The protesters raised slogans to allow them into the stadium. Additional police were deployed due to tense atmosphere between police and protestors.

Krishnaiah condemned the delay by the state government in issuing posting orders to the selected teacher candidates, even two years after the exam. Of the 8,792 posts selected through TRT 2017 notification, only 2,212 candidates received appointment letters, he said.

He alleged that the state government had been destroying the education system in the state by not filling vacant teacher posts. He demanded that it immediately release the protesters unconditionally and issue appointment letters to them at the earliest.
