Over 5,000 students from six schools take part in the drawing contest

Secunderabad: Diabetes is one of the most common lifestyle diseases that is afflicting millions across the globe currently! It is estimated that over 425 million people are currently living with diabetes; and most of these cases are type 2 diabetes, which is largely preventable through regular physical activity, a healthy and balanced diet.

In a bid to enhance awareness among families, especially young children, SLG Hospitals conducted a drawing and painting contest for schoolchildren on the topic of diabetes, pertaining to this year's World Health Organization theme – Protect Your Family. Over 5000 school children from six prominent schools have taken part in the contest.

Dr P Arumugam, HoD, Internal Medicine, SLG Hospitals, said, "Families have a key role to play in addressing the modifiable risk factors for type-2 diabetes and must be provided with the education, resources and environments to live a healthy lifestyle. Creating awareness among children and young adults about this will surely yield hugely positive results."

Students from prominent schools such as Ganga Valley School, Surya Global School, Sri Ram School, Silver Oaks School, Vikas School and Sparkle Stars School took part in the contest that was run from November 8 to 12. Winners of the contest were given prizes at their respective schools on Thursday, to mark the Children's Day.
