Patencheru: The outsourcing sanitary inspector of Bollarum municipality on Saturday allegedly tied up a person to the office gate suspecting his involvement in the theft of a water pipeline. He subjected the suspect to torture for an hour and freed him after local residents intervened.

When The Hans India took the issued to the notice of Municipal Commissioner Santosh Kumar, he assured to take departmental action against the sanitary inspector. Kumar said Vinay had already been removed from duty and that higher-ups would be informed about taking action against him.

The incident came to light after a pipeline valve in Beerappa Basti was found stolen on Friday. While the real thief managed to escape, a passer-by Jangayya, who was suspected by local residents, was punished following a complaint by the residents to the sanitation staff. Vinay allegedly tied Jangayya to the gate.

He had to wait in the hot sun for an hour and was freed only after some local residents intervened. Jangayya was made to sit in the office and, after a warning, forced to give a written undertaking not to repeat such acts. Jangayya told press persons that the municipal staff was harassing him for two days because of which he was not able to eat.
