Demand hots up for assembled coolers

Nacharam: With temperatures in this summer already hovering around 40s in the city, people are searching for ways to find relief from scorching summer heat. As people find it difficult to stay indoors even during nights due to raising temperatures, the demand for coolers and air conditioners has witnessed sudden spurt this month. Taking advantage of the situation, many assembled cooler shops have opened on roadside on Nacharam to Mallapur road these days.

As middle and lower middle-class people cannot afford air conditioners or branded air coolers, these roadside shops are flourishing these days. Even though the prices of assembled cooler are increasing every year, the demand for these coolers is on the rise. As these coolers are very cheap compared to the branded ones, people, especially from poor and middle-class backgrounds, are thronging the shops to buy these cheaper coolers.

Madhu, a middle-class resident of Mallapur, said, "We are forced to buy coolers due to the sudden rise in temperatures and I bought one assembled cooler from a roadside shop as it is cheaper compared to the branded one." It is necessary that the government conducts widespread tree planation drives in the city to reduce summer temperatures, he suggested.
