Hyderabad: As it is already in your pocket, it's easy to whip it out and snap a quick photo whenever the mood strikes you. Nothing can beat the convenience of a smartphone camera, says Mohit Deshpande, a student. A DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera offers functionality as compared to a smartphone, but you can't carry a DSLR everywhere as it takes up a lot of space, he explains.
Peteri Prashanth, a member of Telangana Photographic Society, says, "Smartphones these days have very high-quality lenses in them which can be used to capture any scene – be it a wide landscape or a faraway bird or a small insect. I photograph through the mobile phone as well as DSLR, but it is not possible to carry a DSLR with me at all times, unlike a mobile phone which we have with us wherever we go. It is easy to capture the moment."
"When smartphones are capable of delivering image quality equivalent of a DSLR, what is the hassle?" asks Raghuveer, a B Tech student. Speaking to the Hans India on the occasion of World Photography Day, a few upcoming phone photographers of the twin cities shared their views on smartphone photography.
BN Karthik from Miyapur, who has been doing photography for seven years, shares, "It's been three years I have been doing commercial photography and I saw the technology upgrading a lot in the past couple of years. Phone cameras now produce images just like DSLR cameras.
I don't always prefer phone to DSLR but we can't carry a DSLR everywhere as it takes up a lot of space. Phones, on the other hand, fit right in your pockets and it is easy you just have to click - edit and post on the go. I can't carry a DSLR to work every day, I get to see so many stories on my way to work and at that time I just take out my phone and click simple."
K Rizwan from Abids, who has doing phone photography past five years, agrees: "A good photographer can take an amazing shot with any camera also these days smart phones also support add-on lens which helps in taking those amazing Macro photos, wide-angle lens for a different perspective."
