Musheerabad: Dumping of waste into the drain by restaurants and others commercial shops causes frequent choking of underground drainage on the main road before Bus Bhavan at RTC X Roads.

The centre is noted for its theater complexes and hotels and witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day. Commuters passing through face inconvenience due to unbearable stench. The overflow of drainage before Bus Bhavan is seen every alternate day and the lane opposite to Bus Bhavan fills with sewage water. The locals allege that the hotels in the centre release waste into the drain choking the drainage line before Bus Bhavan.

Vijay, a local resident, said the problem is repeated on every alternate day although sanitation workers attend the issues whenever it happens because the wastage from hotels cause frequent overflows." Srinivas, another local, said, "The GHMC should ensure that drainages do not overflow on main roads. They should inspect hotels frequently and take necessary measures against them."

When The Hans India contacted Jalamandali official Suryanarayana Reddy on the issue, he said that it is true that hotel managements earlier released their waste into drains, but after their action against Bawarchi Hotel, the hotel managements build their own sanitary chambers and that the problem no longer persists.

As most of the sanitary employees were absent on the day, as they were participating in Ambedkar anniversary programmes, the drainage block could not be cleared in time, he clarified.
