Santoshnagar: After a gap of around 5 months, the construction of flyover near Owaisi Hospital has resumed. Officials cited various reasons including monsoon season and works of HMWSSB for suspension of works. The project which is now projected to be completed in next one year lags behind schedule by almost a year.

The construction of flyover was started more than a year back. Starting at Bairamalguda near Champapet (Sagar Road), it ends near SBI Bank in Phisalbanda (Chandrayangutta road), crossing over two junctions Owaisi Hospital Junction and Midhani Junction. After initial progress, the construction works were suspended continuously for about a period of several months.

According to GHMC engineering department, the works were kept pending due to the hindrances caused by the works of major water pipelines which were underway near Owaisi Hospital junction. "As part of these works, the HMWSSB officials shifted the pipelines, which took a couple of months and another reason was the rainy season," said Dattupant GHMC Superintendent Engineer, south zone.

Lack of funds causes delay

The works were also pending due to the non-release of funds. Works resumed after the release of funds from the government. Earlier Water Works and monsoon delayed the project for almost four to five months at a stretch.

Dattupant said that the construction works were started this month and for constructing 3 pillars, the road has been dug up near Owaisi Hospital. The flyover bridge will be completed within one year, he added.

"The fly over bridge is being constructed by the continues representation in Assembly by MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for improving road connectivity in parts of Old City the authorities have taken up the flyover construction last year," said Riyasat Nagar Corporator, Mirza Saleem Baig.

With an estimated cost of Rs 63 crores, the flyover is one of the longest with 2-kms of solid concrete sitting on 36 piers. With its starting point at Bairamalguda, it ends at Phisalbanda. This would be completed by one more year and the project construction works is being undertaken by B Seenaiah & Company Projects Limited Infrastructure Ltd (BSCPLIL). "This project was sanctioned in the year 2015 but due to some issues the project was delayed", said Dattupant.
