Khairatabad: Showing an exemplary gesture towards Armed Forces, a small businessman from Mattapalli village, near Huzurnagar, Siripuram Viswanadham, a 78-year-old small businessman from Mattapalli village, handed over a cheque for Rs 50 lakhs as a donation to Telangana Armed Forces Flag Day Fund at Raj Bhavan on Monday.

After deciding to donate his life-long earnings of Rs 50 lakh to soldiers who protect the nation from enemies by risking their lives, Viswanadham approached Sreenesh Kumar Nori, the Regional Sainik Welfare Officer at Hyderabad, through known sources and offered to donate some amount to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. He handed over the cheque to Governor of Telangana Tamilisai Soundara Rajan in the presence of Sreenesh Kumar and the Director Sainik Welfare, Col P Ramesh Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion, Viswanadham said that he had longed to donate some amount to soldiers for many years and expressed his happiness at getting an opportunity to contribute to the welfare of soldiers. He said that soldiers risk their lives to protect the nation and he felt that it was his duty to contribute to their welfare.

Congratulating Viswanadham for his noble gesture, the Governor described the act as a national service and assured that every rupee of the donation would be well spent on welfare of ex-servicemen and soldiers. Later, Governor felicitated him with a shawl on the occasion. Colonel Ramesh Kumar and Srinesh Kumar thanked him for his great gesture.
