Rajendranagar: The agrarian activities in the city outskirts are melting down steadily as real-estate boom making it difficult for the peasant community to continue with their legacy.

Moinabad and surrounding areas have been the main source of veggies that fulfilled the demands of city markets. However, real estate boom is luring the farmers who are ready to give away swathes of farmlands to realty ventures owing to low returns and huge payout.

Only few farmers are holding to the legacy of farming by growing vegetables in their land which they perceive is the only source of their livelihood. The remaining fields are by and large fulfilling the demand of the city markets but often the farmers can't get the desired rate for their produce even after toiling hard for several months.

"These farmers are giving prominence to selling land for real estate business over continuing with farming these days. This is why the green areas of outskirts are rapidly turning into real estate ventures. You could see the ventures all the way from Rajendranagar to Mahboobnagar on National Highway 44 quite one after another," said Mohammed Ghouse a Real Estate Agent.

Fields are rapidly vanishing from Shamshabad to Aluru on the famous Hyderabad-Bangalore stretch. Those who are still continuing with farming activities are losing their hopes with inflation in vegetable prices skyrocketing," said Balaiah, a resident of Kanka Mamedi Junction.

Ventures varying from 100 to 300 Sq Yards are being offered in a price range from Rs.3000 to Rs.15,000 respectively on wayside of the road, while Rs.3000 to Rs.7,000 inward from the main roads are being offered for sale. Of them, plots under HMDA and RERA (Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act) are quite costly as prices here are starting from Rs.10,000 per sq.yard.

However, the area from Shamshabad to Kottur which largely comes under GO 111, here one can see caution boards every few kms, informing people not to enter into any land translations as that may attract demolition from the authorities.

The DTCP (Directorate of Town and Country Planning) as well as Grampanchayat approved layouts can be seen only from Kottur mandal where the prices of plots rangefrom Rs.3000 to Rs.10,000 per sq.yard.
